Frequently Asked Questions:

Toenails appear yellow, brittle or thickened?
You may suffer from onychomycosis, a condition also known as toenail fungus. Toenail fungus can be caused by heavy foot perspiration, poor shoe/sock ventilation, or walking barefoot in damp areas such as a gym or locker room. Until now, the only solutions for toenail fungus were to surgically remove the nail; apply topical treatments, which have a poor success rate; or more recently, prescription medications, which have many potentially dangerous side effects.

Lasers are the latest treatment for toenail fungus?
Laser treatments can effectively rid your toenails of unsightly toenail fungus in as little as one or two treatments, depending on the severity of the condition. The laser wavelength penetrates the nail, eliminating the destructive fungus that cause the infection and revitalizing your nail as it grows out.

What to expect…
Your toenails will be cleaned and filed prior to the laser treatment. The infected nails are treated with the laser and you will feel a mild, warming sensation. As the nail bed heats up there will be chilled air blowing on the treated area to maintain your comfort.  The laser treatment will typically take about 20 minutes to treat an infected nail area and there is usually no discomfort after the treatment. The physician will discuss post-treatment care to avoid fungal re-infection.
You will notice results within 2-4 months, depending on how quickly your toenails grow. New, clear growth begins to appear at the bottom portion of your nail as the diseased portion of your nail grows out. You may return to your normal daily routine immediately after your toenail treatment, including painting your nails or pedicure treatments.

Why choose laser treatments to treat your toenail fungus?
Laser treatments are an effective, quick treatment that provides safe results free of medications and other ineffective methods.

How many treatments will I need?
Typically 1-2 treatments should be sufficient depending on the severity of the condition, your overall health and how fast your nails grow. Following your first treatment you will be asked for a follow-up treatment in 4 weeks and if needed a third treatment in 12 weeks.

Note: Some lasers are FDA cleared for these dermatology procedures.  While are lasers are currently under clinical investigation for treatment of onychomycosis.
